A brief history: Midsomer Norton Town Hall was built around 1860. The building is one of four constructed close together at around the same time and in a similar architectural style by John Harris Smith, the others being used currently by Lloyd’s Bank and those, the Natwest building and what was the Greyhound Inn.

Constructed in local stone in the Italian Gothic style at an original cost of £1,500, it was used at first as a market hall; corn and cattle markets being held on the first Tuesday in each month and a Cattle Fair annually on April 25th. The hall was also used for musical entertainments and public meetings. Today the Town Hall is managed by the Community Trust and remains at the heart of community activity.
